The fire originated in a three-story building with vacant commercial storefronts at its ground level and apartments above. It then extended east to a two-story building, said Fire Chief Brian Wright.

The blaze originated in one of the apartments above the commercial storefronts, and the cause of the fire has been determined as accidental, Wright said.

Two residents were evaluated on scene for smoke inhalation and neither required treatment or transport.

“Fire crews worked diligently to prevent further extension to surrounding structures and made excellent tactical decisions that successfully stopped the spread of the fire,” Wright said. “The three-story building did sustain a partial roof collapse.”

He said eight displaced residents are working with the Red Cross for assistance and support.

By Monday afternoon, crews remained on scene extinguishing hot spots and cleaning up any areas that could pose a danger to passerby, according to Wright.

No injuries were reported for firefighters.
